Glenny Opinion: Navigating the new RICS AI Standards

We note the publication of the new 'Responsible use of artificial intelligence in surveying practice' (1st edition, September 2025) by Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, which becomes effective from 9 March 2026.

Our Head of Valuation and Lease Advisory, Paul Aylott, gives his professional opinion on the importance of these governance frameworks:

'The standard sets a clear, principles-based framework for the responsible adoption of AI within surveying services, with a strong emphasis on professional judgement, governance, risk management, transparency, and client communication.
It reinforces that while AI presents significant opportunities for the profession, its use must be balanced with appropriate oversight, documentation, and accountability.'

We welcome this notable development, which sets out best practice across the surveying industry in respect of systems, policies and procedures around the use of AI. Glenny LLP remains committed to upholding the highest standards of ethics, competence and diligence, and to using technology responsibly in the delivery of our services.
