Glenny appointed by developer for transformation of The Crown pub, Romford, into new homes

Glenny has been brought on board by developer Kundra Holdings LLP to lead on the conversion of The Crown pub, 260 London Road, Romford, into new homes. Glenny’s Building Consultancy Division is managing the project, acting as Project Manager and Employer’s Agent.

The Crown, which dates back to the 19th century, is located on a main road into Romford town centre. The scheme secured approval from Havering Council’s Planning Committee to transform the existing three-storey building into a new residential development comprising 24 well-appointed apartments. Construction is intended to begin in February 2022 which will involve partial demolition of the existing and site preparation before commencing and two four storey new build wings comprising 12 one-bedroom and 12 two-bedroom apartments with residents’ parking and associated landscaping.

Patrick Laderman, Associate at Glenny LLP, says: “We’re proud to be entrusted with this project. Glenny has a strong reputation for providing clients with expert consultancy on construction contracts, costs and management. As a multi-disciplinary firm, we are well placed to successfully manage developments across their entire lifecycle, with this project in Romford being no exception. We operate across the country, delivering construction projects from inception through to handover and use, and our construction knowledge is vital in creating projects tailored to meeting the demands of our clients.”

Kundra intends to revitalise the building’s “tired appearance” to preserve its use for the future. The developer is working with architects ATP Group and structural engineer SD Structures to finalise the tender for the project’s designs. Considering the building’s prominent position and local importance, the aim is to retain its existing facades to preserve its unique heritage characteristics, while blending them with a modernised exterior that complements the surrounding area.

“Romford is a major Metropolitan centre and strategically located commuter town connecting people to the heart of London and nearby Essex, and demand for residential properties is growing”, adds Patrick. “Transport links to London will be further boosted with the introduction of the Elizabeth line next year. Our goal is to bring out the best in the existing Crown building, with a thoughtful approach that respects its historical value while providing much-needed new homes in the area.”
